- Background noise:
Background noise blocks out the speaker and the person that the speaker is talking to might mishear the message. Background noises will distract the speaker and he might forget the message which could be really important. Background noise is a really big barrier to communication and you might have to get away from the noise or rearrange the conversation for a different time. To eliminate this issue we could walk away from the distraction and carry on with the conversation in a quiet place however if it’s somebody talking to you while you are talking to someone else, just tell them to wait till you finish your conversation. To avoid being distracted by background noises again you could meet in a quiet and peaceful place where there is nobody to distract you.
- Types of questions:
There are questions that could make you feel uncomfortable when asked. These questions might be personal or questions that you generally don’t understand. When you find a question too personal or it makes you feel uncomfortable then tell the person that you don’t want to answer this question or tell him/her to change the subject of the conversation. If you just don’t understand the question, ask the person for an explanation. Personal questions might put you off the conversation. This is a barrier to communication because you will feel uncomfortable and you might not want to carry on with the conversation.
- Language:
If you don’t speak a certain language you won’t be able to communicate with the society. For example if you move to a different country the society might not speak English. There are loads of people that may not be able to speak your language. Both of these things could be a barrier to communication because you won’t understand what the person is saying to you or someone might not understand what you are saying. If somebody wants to tell you something important then you might not be able to understand the message.
- Disability:
Somebody might have a disability which will stop them from talking. Somebody might have an issue with their face and not be able to use their mouth which means that they won’t be able to talk. Some people are deaf which means that a person won’t be able to hear you and this can be dangerous at times because they may not be aware of a coming danger.
- Speed of response:
If somebody asks you a question you need to respond as soon as possible. The reason for that is because the answer might be important for the person and they want you to answer as soon as possible.
